All about implants

Smile Street Dentistry offers a wide variety of treatment options and services including implants.
Dental implants are essentially artificial tooth roots. When dental implants are inserted into your jawbone, they bond with your natural bone and become a part of your mouth. These implants become a sturdy base for supporting artificial teeth, called crowns. Dental implants are the closest thing you can get to natural, healthy teeth. They allow you to continue normal healthy activities such as eating, talking, smiling, kissing, and laughing- all with the total confidence of not having to worry about your teeth.

Why would you choose a dental implant?

Modern dental implants have been used in the industry for over thirty years. They are the strongest option available to replace your missing teeth and to maintain the integrity and structure of your teeth, jaw, and facial structure. Implants look and function just like natural teeth. When performed by a trained and licensed dental professional, dental implants are also one of the most common and safe dental surgeries available. Implants also maintain the integrity of the jaw bone. When there is no tooth root in a particular area of the mouth, bone loss occurs.
Implants are the only replacement option that mimics the root of the tooth in the jaw bone in order to maintain natural bone growth. Dental implants are also the best copycat on the market. These look and function more like natural teeth than any other option, allowing you to enjoy your life worry free.

Types of Dental Implants:

There are two main types of dental bridges.

Endosteal Implants

Endosteal implants are the most commonly used implants. These are small titanium implants shaped like small screws and inserted into the jaw.

Subperiosteal Implants

Instead of inserting a root like structure into the jawbone, subperiosteal implants are placed under the gum, but on or above the jawbone. This type of implant may be an option for a patient that has already lost a significant amount of bone structure and does not want to rebuild or undergo jaw reconstruction prior to the implant placement.

Preparing for your dental implant appointment.

What to expect during your dental implant appointment
At the implant placement appointment, the titanium post or dental implant is placed into the jaw using a special drill and tools. A healing cap is then placed on the post and the gums are stitched up. A temporary denture may be placed in the gap for aesthetic purposes until the next appointment.
Healing time can vary greatly, but a follow- up appointment will be required to check on the healing process. Once healed, a prosthetic component is made to attach to the new titanium “root.” At this point an impression is made so that a permanent replacement can be custom made to fit the mouth permanently. A final appointment will be made to place the new implant crown into the gap. WIth proper care and maintenance, you will enjoy your new implant for a lifetime.
